    Tom Chute of WATR Radio

For nearly four decades, Tom Chute has hosted the morning show on WATR Radio with information and entertainment perfectly suited to a large and loyal group of listeners.  Moreover, his leadership in serving the community extends well beyond the confines of the radio studio.   Tom has volunteered his time in our Soup Kitchen and on location for events held by various organizations in support of the Mission.  We have been fortunate to have Tom as the regular program host for our annual banquets.  His name and highly regarded reputation for community service are familiar to anyone residing in the greater Waterbury area.  Tom is the General Manager and Program Director for the radio station.

    Rev. John Cooney

Father Cooney has supported the work of the Mission in many ways.  During his time as pastor at St. John the Evangelist Church, a group of people prepared and served the noon time meal (and continues to do so) on the fourth Saturday of every month.  Father consistently attends our annual banquet and takes part in the evening program.   He is frequently participates in Walk in their footsteps – Race for awareness events, sometimes leading the Walk or starting the runners or presenting awards to the winners.  Father’s work in the larger community also includes the Naugatuck Valley Project where he is currently part of the executive team.   For many years, Father served as the chaplain of the Watertown Fire Department.

Saint Basil the Great Parish, Wolcott

On the first Saturday of each month of the year, a small group of people from Saint Basil the Great Parish arrive at the Soup Kitchen early in the morning.  They bring chicken to be cooked onsite with the guidance and help of Soup Kitchen staff.  They also provide sides and dessert.  The group serves the meal and cleans the serving utensils and the kitchen area.  This monthly project began about fifteen years ago by parishioner as part of her Lay Ministry program at St. Maria Goretti Church which along with St. Pius X Church now comprise St. Basil the Great Parish.  The parish regularly collects food and personal items for use by the people served by SVDP.

    Mutual Security Credit Union

The Mission has had a long-term association with MSCU.  Our relationship has included their banking services and related business advice.  Their charitable support to the Mission has been substantial.  Over the years, MSCU has supported our events with generous sponsorships and has conducted public and in-house collections of food products, personal supplies, and such.  Additionally, employees have volunteered their time in our facilities as well.  MSCU actively supports nonprofits in western Connecticut communities.
