  • Biography

    Richard L. Manzo, M.D.

    Dr. Manzo is an orthopaedic upper-extremity surgeon who has practiced in Waterbury since 2007. He is currently a partner at Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics and Spine Specialists, PC. He is a cum laude graduate of Princeton University and the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. He went on to receive residency training in orthopeadic surgery in the Hartford Hospital/University of Connecticut system and specialty fellowship training in Shoulder, Elbow and Hand surgery at Tufts Medical Center and the New England Baptist Hospital in Boston. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery and a Member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. He is board certified in both orthopaedic surgery and surgery of the hand and upper-extremity. He currently serves as chief of the department of Orthopaedic surgery at Waterbury Hospital. He has been voted a Connecticut Magazine Top Doc four times, most recently in 2017.

    Through his training and practice in Hartford, Boston and Waterbury he has gained extensive experience treating the urban poor. This has provided a unique perspective on the challenges facing some of the poorest among us.

    Prior to his medical training, he also had the opportunity to serve and live amongst the homeless in Downton Los Angeles with the Missionaries of Charity Brothers. Through the teachings of the Order’s founder, Mother Teresa of Calcutta, he saw how working with the poorest of the poor can be one of life’s most rewarding experiences. He looks forward to continuing this type of work on the Board of St. Vincent DePaul Mission of Waterbury.

    Rich lives in Southbury with his wife Marion, a Region 15 Board of Education member and an attorney. He is father to Thomas, Emily and Katie.
