Since 1984, our shelter has been a refuge for thousands of individuals and families experiencing homelessness. The largest program of its kind in the State of Connecticut, the shelter is able to serve up t0 108 people each night, but in an emergency situation the shelter can serve an additional 16 individuals. Our shelter services go beyond a hot shower, a clean bed, and a safe place to restore: On a daily basis, our shelter guests are offered individualized and comprehensive case management services so they can obtain the tools and resources necessary to overcome their housing challenges.
We not only operate to ensure that individuals and families experiencing homelessness receive basic needs and housing, but also to help them find sustainable solutions to overcome homelessness and successfully reintegrate into the community at large. By providing these services and cooperatively partnering with other providers, we are helping people end their cycle of homelessness.
Our ultimate goal is to help people restore, recover, and reestablish their self-worth, self-determination, and self-sufficiency. Through our case management and connected network, our guests may be linked to housing placement; employment, mental health, substance abuse, health, legal, and veteran services; and receive assistance to access the public benefits, clothing, furniture, and the personal items they require.
We operate our own Soup Kitchen, Food Pantry, Rapid Rehousing, Thrift Store, Affordable Housing, and Mental Health Residential Programs, including a Permanent Supportive Housing Program for Homeless Individuals and Families with Disabilities. Many of these services can provide support to our guests at the Shelter, and to the countless others who are in need in our community.
Our provider referral services include mental health, substance abuse and health care services; literacy, vocation and educational services; food assistance services; and SSI and SSDI application assistance.
We operate these services in order to ensure families and individuals meet their most basic needs, learn skills, and access the resources they require to transition out of homelessness.
We promote fair housing and equal access.
